Status update WEEK 3

Things done :

Problems faced :

- The drawings and story was not done together so the pictures did not fit a few chapters 

- The making of the book was tricky and we had to refer to old children's books to start on the making of it

Research

For the research our group has done, we simply searched a few examples of Children's Picture books to get some inspiration and also to help us brainstorm on ideas on how we would like our book to look like.

Some famous Children's Picture book authors are Dr Seuss and Peggy Parish.

We have looked at some picture books we own such as Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) and How The Bird's Got Their Colours by Mary Albert

Here are pictures of the books we looked through:

We observed that Dr Seuss Books have a rhyming pattern and it has big and colourful pictures which easily helps the reader to visualize and understand the events in the book. Unfortunately, we tried to rhyme one part of the book and we encountered so much difficulty.  

Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish

 This book has a lot of humour in it and it is just narrated in a third person point of view. For every event that happens in the book, there is an illustration for it. The illustrations are overly detailed. It has enough details and it has appropriate colours. Our book is similar to this, we have a picture for every event but the only difference is that we have 2 first person point of views which are Sunhee and Taeyul instead of a third person point of view for everything.

How the Bird's Got Their Colours By Mary Albert

This book is really colourful. The story is told by an aboriginal but the illustrations are painted and the illustrations of the book are based on Mary Albert's paintings. The illustrations look very much like a child has done it and it goes great with the text of the book. The way the content of the book is written is very creative and descriptive.

So for the picture book our group made, we had two first person point of views, which are Sunhee and Taeyul, as stated above. We also have at least one picture for each of the events which we decided to include in our book.  Our illustrations are simple and cartoon-like.

-Synopsis (Although, we are still thinking if this is necessary for children picture books)

Problems faced:

-We lagged behind when we were doing the story as we misunderstood how we were suppose to write it. We forgot that it was a children's picture and therefore the lesser the words and less detailed it is, the better.
-The drawings were also quite slow as Harman was putting too much details into the drawing. I think he forgot too that we were doing a CHILDREN'S picture book so it does not need any drawings that are very detaled.
-The blog was not updated BY wednesday as I did not have time to use the computer. It was updated today, 5 April 2012 at 7.05pm

Status Report Week 4

Drawings for when Uncle left, Taeyul's bike and the dropping of leaflets by the Americans.

Drawings for when Taeyul told Omoni and Abuji he volunteered for the airstrip, when Taeyul was at the airstrip and the coming of the Americans.

Drawings for the change of names, when uncle was beaten up, burning of sharon trees and the metal raid.
